Roger Corman
Roger William Corman foi um diretor, produtor e ator de cinema americano. Conhecido por vários apelidos como "O Papa do Cinema Pop", "O Rei dos B's", "O Padrinho Espiritual da Nova Hollywood" e "O Rei do Culto", ele era conhecido como um pioneiro no mundo do cinema independente.
Muitos dos mais de 500 longas-metragens dirigidos ou produzidos por Corman eram filmes de baixo orçamento que mais tarde atraíram seguidores cult, como A Pequena Loja dos Horrores (1960), O Intruso (1962), X: O Homem dos Olhos de Raio-X (1963) e os filmes de contracultura, Os Anjos Selvagens (1966) e A Viagem (1967). House of Usher (1960) tornou-se o primeiro de oito filmes dirigidos por Corman que foram adaptados dos contos de Edgar Allan Poe, e que coletivamente passaram a ser conhecidos como o "Ciclo de Poe".
Corman também ficou famoso por cuidar da distribuição nos Estados Unidos de muitos filmes de importantes diretores estrangeiros, incluindo Federico Fellini (Itália), Ingmar Bergman (Suécia), François Truffaut (França) e Akira Kurosawa (Japão). Ele orientou e deu início a muitos jovens diretores de cinema, como Francis Ford Coppola, Ron Howard, Martin Scorsese, Jonathan Demme, Peter Bogdanovich, Joe Dante, John Sayles e James Cameron, e foi altamente influente no movimento cinematográfico da Nova Hollywood das décadas de 1960 e 1970. Ele também ajudou a lançar carreiras de atores como Peter Fonda, Jack Nicholson, Dennis Hopper, Bruce Dern, Diane Ladd e William Shatner.
